If Trauma Lab shows a black screen, stalls on loading, or stutters once it starts, this page collects the fixes that actually apply to this game — plus the general browser checks that solve most of the rest. Start at the top; the first two items cover the most common causes.
It may simply be updating
The game updates unusually fast — it went from v1.06 at launch to v1.19 within two days, and new builds keep arriving. When an update rolls out, the embedded copy can briefly fail to load or behave oddly. If the game does not start, wait a few minutes and reload before changing anything on your side. On the homepage, the load-failure overlay appears after about 15 seconds with a direct link to the official page, which is always the reliable fallback: open it on itch.io ↗.
Lag: lower the gore level first
If the game loads but runs slowly, the developer's own advice is to lower the gore level in the Options menu (press O). It is the fix the developer suggests for lag reports, so try it before anything else, especially on phones. If your device handles it well and you want more detail instead, the developer recommends the extreme gore setting. Version v1.17 also brought a big performance fix for phones, so make sure you are on a recent build — the version number shows in the game menu.
General browser fixes
Work through these in order — each one takes under a minute:
- Reload the page with a hard refresh (Ctrl+F5 on Windows, Cmd+Shift+R on Mac) to bypass a stale cached copy.
- Clear your browser cache for the last day or week, then reload.
- Try another browser. Any modern browser works; if the game loads in one but not another, the problem is in the first browser, not the game.
- Turn off extensions — especially ad blockers and privacy tools — for the game page. Some blockers stop the embedded frame or its scripts from loading at all, which looks exactly like a broken game.
- Enable hardware acceleration in your browser settings if it is off; a physics sandbox benefits from it.
- Close other tabs and apps. The simulation tracks bullets, wounds and vitals in real time, and it competes badly with twenty other tabs for memory.
On a phone
On phones the game switches to a dedicated mobile layout with bigger vitals and pinch-to-zoom. If the picture looks cramped, try rotating the phone to landscape for a wider view. Use the Fullscreen button under the game for the best view; on iPhone, where true fullscreen is not available to web pages, the site falls back to a full-screen view with a visible exit button. If performance is poor on a phone, lower the gore level as described above and close background apps.
School or work networks
People often search for ways to play unblocked at school or work. Whether the game loads there depends entirely on that network's filters — some block game pages, some block embedded frames, and some allow everything. We can't promise it will work on a filtered network, and the honest answer is that if the network blocks it, that is the network's decision. Remember that this is an 18+ game with graphic content, so please respect your school's or workplace's rules.
The downloadable builds as an alternative
If the browser version will not cooperate, the same game exists as downloadable files on the official page: a single HTML file (about 2 MB) that opens in any modern browser on a PC with no installation, and an Android APK of about 1 MB. Both are "name your own price", so they can be downloaded free. The Android install steps are in the APK guide, and the file table is in the download section on the homepage. If Windows shows a SmartScreen warning for the HTML file, that is covered there too.
Content warning: Trauma Lab contains graphic injury, blood and medical detail and is intended for players 18+.
